DUNN TO RETURN TO TCM WITH FRESH LOOK

Ben Dunn will make his return to the Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Series this weekend at Supercheap Auto Bathurst International and confirmed his plans to compete full-time in 2024.

The New South Welshman will make his first category appearance since the final round of the season in South Australia last year, which ended in unfortunate circumstances after his Chevrolet Monza was left with significant damage following an on-track incident.

This weekend, Dunn will sport a fresh new look on the same Monza that has since undergone a long recovery period with RedAss Mexican Food coming on board as the livery sponsor.

The Mexican food chain has been a long-time supporter of the team since first coming onboard back in 2009, where Ben’s father Colin competed in the V8 Ute Series.

The partnership has seen plenty of success since its formation, including a win at the world-famous Mountain Panorama Circuit back in 2010.

With the assistance of Jeff Barnes, a former owner of one of Allan Moffat’s Monza’s, Dunn has now got access to available parts to return to the track not only for the rest of 2023, but on a full-time 2024 basis as well.

Dunn was looking forward to returning to the mountain and compete in one of Australia’s most popular categories.

“I am keen to get the category back to which is one of Australia’s most popular, so I have committed to getting the Chevy Monza back for Bathurst and Adelaide this year and plant to do all of 2024.

“Last year I crashed the Monza quite heavily at the Adelaide 500 and it took many months to source parts as you can expect there aren’t many Monza’s in Australia.

“Jeff Barnes who is a well know Monza racer from the 80s and actually owned one of Allan Moffat’s original beasts, reached out to me to assist and is also sourcing me a backup shell and parts from the USA later this year just so we have parts available moving forward.

“We are all keen to have our Kiwi cousins over which is always good to see their cars, hopefully they aren’t still to upset about losing the World Cup final in rugby.

“Any lap you can get at Bathurst, you take. It has so much history and is so amazing to drive, especially in the TCM cars they have heaps of HP and move around a lot so always put on great racing for the fans.”

Gulf Western Oil Touring Car Masters Series will be one of six national categories to take the track at Mount Panorama next weekend, featuring alongside Kumho TCR World Tour and Supercheap Auto TCR Australia, National Trans Am Series, Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, Kumho V8 Touring Car Series and the Mobil 1 Australian Productions Cars and Monochrome Invited Australia.
