Waltec duo return for first leg of Trans Am double-header

A strong National Trans Am Series field has been confirmed for the first of two back-to-back international-themed rounds this November.

Twenty competitors made up of a blend of Chevrolet Camaros and Ford Mustangs will take to the track at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend, including the return of a few familiar names.

After featuring in a ‘one-off’ appearance at Queensland Raceway earlier this year, Tim Brook will return to the field in a Waltec Motorsport backed Camaro alongside Queenslander, Kyle Gurton.

This will be Gurton’s first appearance of the season after finishing fourth in the series last year, with his best result a pair of second place finishes in the opening round of the year at AWC Race Tasmania.

Adding some American flavour to the international event will be Robert Noaker, who will re-join Dream Racing Australia (DRA) after a cameo appearance at Supercheap Auto Bathurst International last year.

This year, the Pennsylvania-raised US Trans Am competitor will double his stay as he is also confirmed to return to Mount Panorama for this year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

Noaker will join regular DRA entries Craig Scutella and Josh Webster, with both drivers currently sitting in the top five of the series standings.

The fight for the 2023 title will continue with all the main contenders returning for the penultimate round, including series leader and Pioneer DJ entry, Elliot Barbour.

Barbour will look to continue an impressive run of form that now sees him as the driver to beat after the Garry Rogers Motorsport (GRM) duo of James Moffat and Lochie Dalton were disqualified from an earlier round.

Undoubtedly, Moffat and Dalton will be eager to reclaim what was once theirs next weekend, while the other GRM entry, Edan Thornburrow will also take part.

Two privateer entries to look out for will be Tom Hayman and Ben Grice, both more than capable of running up the front of the field having taken round wins in the past. The same being said for Brett Holdsworth and Nash Morris.

Rounding out the entries for the outright competitors is The Racing Academy duo of Cody Gilles and Elliott Cleary, as well as Joshua Thomas who will also return.

Competitors vying for both the Hoosier and Masters Cups include Scutella, John Holinger, Mark Crutcher, Chris Pappas and Nick Lange.

The National Trans Am Series will see four races across the two days for only the second time this year, as well as featuring under lights on both nights.

Race Sydney tickets are available from motorsportickets.com.au.

Those who can’t make it to the track will be able to watch all four of the category’s races via the live, ad-free and on-demand Stan Sport broadcast.

The National Trans Am Series will take to the track at Sydney Motorsport Park for Race Sydney on 3-4 November.
