Barbour to lead Trans Am Series to Sydney in wide-open title fight
ELLIOT BARBOUR will lead the national Trans Am Series battle to the double-header Sydney Motorsport Park and Bathurst season showdown following a shake-up of the series points.
The disqualification of James Moffat and Lochie Dalton from the results of the Winton event has transformed the series standings and elevated the Pioneer DJ Chevrolet Camaro driver to the top of the table with two rounds remaining.
Meanwhile, the revised Winton round results has Cody Gillis retrospectively claiming the round victory ahead of Ben Grice and Jackson Rice.
Barbour, who won his maiden Trans Am round at Queensland Raceway in August this year, now finds himself atop the standings with a 21-point lead over Josh Webster.
Webster in turn has a narrow four-point margin over Brett Holdsworth, who now sits third outright.
There’s little between the leading six competitors now with Tom Hayman (36 points behind Barbour), Craig Scutella (-49) and Cody Gillis (-77) all within 100 points of the new series leader.
A zero-score from Winton drops Moffat to seventh in the standings, however the Valvoline GRM driver remains firmly in the title hunt.
He’s just 115 points from the lead, with 260 points on offer at Race Sydney and a further 260 at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International in November.
Dalton slips to eighth position – 163 points from the lead – while Ben Grice and John Holinger complete the top-10.
Those 520 points on offer across the final two rounds mean that mathematically, anyone down to Mark Crutcher in 17th place remains in contention for the series’ title this year.
GRM has informed Motorsport Australia of its intention to appeal the results of the outcome of the Tribunal hearing.
National Trans Am Series will feature under the lights at Sydney Motorsport Park for Race Sydney on 3-4 November, then returning one week later for Supercheap Auto Bathurst International on 10-12 November. Tickets to both events can be purchased here.
