New Lynk & Co to debut in 2023

Geely Group Motorsport has launched a new version of its successful Lynk & Co 03 TCR, which is set to debut in the upcoming inaugural Kumho TCR World Tour.

The new model replaces the multiple WTCR winning version debuted back in late-2018 as Lynk & Co made history by becoming the first Chinese brand to appear in an FIA-sanctioned championship.

Entered in the 2019 World Touring Car Cup through Cyan Racing, Yvan Muller took third before his nephew Yann Ehrlacher took back-to-back Drivers’ Championships in 2020 and 2021, while the Swedish-based squad took a hattrick of Teams’ titles.

Success was not reduced to the top level as Teamwork Motorsport in Asia, South American team PMO Motorsport and MA:GP in Scandinavia each took wins.

The new 03 is based on the updated road version revealed late-last year featuring revised exterior styling and a variety of updates internally to ease the introduction of hybrid in 2024.

The engine remains the same compared to the previous model, with Cyan Racing being the first customer through its four-entry Kumho TCR World Tour attack having confirmed two of its drivers in the form of Thed Bjork and Ma Qing Hua earlier this week.

“We are thrilled to present a new generation of the successful Lynk & Co 03 TCR model,” Alexander Murdzevski Schedvin, Head of Geely Group Motorsport, said.

“This is a careful evolvement of the original model, following the striking new exterior of the Lynk & Co 03 road car equivalent.

“We are delighted to be able to offer it to our customers during the 2023 season and beyond.”

Of course, the new Lynk & Co will race on Australian shores at the two local Kumho TCR World Tour rounds, one of which is at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.

The next round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series is at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons SpeedSeries on May 12-14.
