New TCR World Rankings feature two Aussies inside top 15
WSC Group, the rights holders for TCR, has launched a new driver rankings concept, and two Australian stars feature inside the top 15 TCR drivers in the world.
The 2022 Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series title protagonists Tony D’Alberto and Jordan Cox – first and second in the domestic series with one round remaining – have been ranked amongst some of the world’s elite TCR stars.
Cox, who finished third in the 2021 TCR Australia Series and currently sits 54 points behind D’Alberto in this year’s title, is the highest of the Australian drivers, ranked 10th.
Honda driver D’Alberto comes in 15th.
The list is topped by Franco Girolami who competes in the TCR Italy and TCR Europe.
Other Australians to feature in the top 100 include Aaron Cameron (28th), Josh Buchan (36th), Will Brown (42nd), Zac Soutar (49th), Jay Hanson (51st), Chaz Mostert (66th), Dylan O’Keeffe (68th), Ben Bargwanna (82nd), Luke King (93rd) and Bailey Sweeny (95th).
The TCR World Rankings are based on calculations of results, starting January 2021,
The purpose of the TCR World Ranking is to highlight the achievements of all drivers who race TCR specification cars across the world in TCR-sanctioned events.
The calculation takes into account the race results of each driver, which are weighted in two ways – the series in which they took part, as well as the size of the field.
The series weighting is divided into five categories: international, regional, national, endurance, and other sprint races. TCR Australia is classified as a ‘national’ category.
The number of cars taking part at each race meeting also effects ranking results, with events featuring more than 20 cars scoring more points for the drivers.
The last 20 race results are taken into account; and drivers who haven’t been racing for more than 30 weeks will start to have their oldest results removed in time until they return to competition.
With just two years of results, the TCR World Ranking has calculated results for 928 drivers, with about 320 race results per year contributing to the calculation.

WSC founder and president Marcello Lotti has claimed that this is a world first ranking system for motorsport.
“With so many championships and so many drivers all racing in TCR, it made absolute sense to launch the TCR World Ranking,” said Lotti.
“This is inspired by other popular sports, but one that hasn’t been used in motorsport until now.
“With over 1,100 cars built to its technical regulations, TCR is one of the most successful motorsport concepts ever, and the scale and level of competition in TCR is immense – so I conceived the TCR World Ranking as a way to highlight the performances of the great talent we see competing in TCR machinery.”
The final round of the Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series will be held at Mount Panorama for the inaugural Supercheap Auto Bathurst International.
