Format revealed for inaugural Trans Am Bathurst 100
The format for the Trans Am Bathurst 100, to be held at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst International in November this year, has been revealed.
To be run as part of Mount Panorama’s newest race event on November 26-28, the action for National Trans Am Series competitors includes more than two hours of on-track time, headlined by the 16 lap Trans Am Bathurst 100 finale.
Preceding the Trans Am Bathurst 100, two 25-minute practice sessions and a 20 minute fight for pole in Race 1 begins the weekend. Race 1 is a 10 lap dash, with the results forming the grid for Race 2, which is also of the same length.
The grid for the Trans Am Bathurst 100 is then formed from the accumulative points from the opening two races. The winner of the Trans Am Bathurst 100 will take home the inaugural trophy.
Trans Am National Series category manager Liam Curkpatrick said the Trans Am Bathurst 100 is a perfect way to end the maiden season for the class and will become a prestigious prize in its own right.
“The Bathurst 100 is a special and significant event for Trans Am, as we will not only be a feature category of the Bathurst International event, we will also have increased track time, which of course includes the 100km Bathurst 100 race,” said Curkpatrick.
“Add live, free-to-air television coverage and the Trans Am Bathurst 100 will be the highlight of the Trans Am racing year and an iconic event for years to come.”
Submission for early bird entries ends tomorrow (Wednesday, June 30) with already 25 entries committed with this expected to grow.
Currently, Aaron Seton leads the National Trans Am Series by four points ahead of Nathan Herne as the battle for the title continues at Morgan Park Raceway on August 13-15.
